Sam Taylor’s first book, Body of the World, was published by Ausable Press and is now available from Copper Canyon Press. Work from his new collection, Nude Descending an Empire (Pitt Poetry Series, 2014), has appeared in such places as The New Republic, AGNI, Michigan Quarterly Review, Orion, New Letters, Beloit Poetry Journal, and Poetry Daily. Whereas his first book primarily explored themes of mysticism—world as self, self as world—in a variety of contemporary but timeless contexts, his new collection strives to develop the lyrical voice of a citizen-poet engaged with history and the urgency of our contemporary moment. He has received The Dobie Paisano Fellowship, the James Michener Fellowship, the Henry Hoyns Fellowship, and fellowship residencies from the Vermont Studio Center and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts.
