From the Fishouse: An Anthology of Poems that Sing, Rhyme, Resound, Syncopate, Alliterate, and Just Plain Sound Great (Persea Books, 2009) is an acclaimed new anthology that focuses on the balance of poetry on the page and poetry read aloud. Co-editors Matt O’Donnell and Jeffrey Thomson, along with fellow poets Christian Barter, Adrian Blevins, Gibson Fay-LeBlanc, Douglas Woodsum, and Anthony Walton, will read poems to celebrate this new collection and the Maine-based poets who contributed to it.
The event, sponsored by From the Fishouse and The Telling Room, a nonprofit community writing center, is open to the public with a $5 suggested donation. The reception following the reading is sponsored by Shipyard Brewing Co.

Gerald Stern is one of the most distinguished poets in America today. His This Time: Selected Poems won the National Book Award; he’s also been granted the Lamont Prize, a Guggenheim, three NEA awards, a fellowship from The Academy of Arts and Letters, and the Ruth Lilly Prize. He is currently Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets. He’s taught at Columbia University, New York University, and at the Writer’s Workshop in Iowa City. His most recent collections of poetry are Everything is Burning and American Sonnets, and a new collection will be available in the spring of 2010.
Mr. Stern also wrote the Foreword to the recent From the Fishouse: An Anthology of Poems that Sing, Rhyme, Resound, Syncopate, Alliterate, and Just Plain Sound Great.
The event is sponsored by Colby College Special Collections, Jewish Studies, and the Departments of English and Creative writing, in collaboration with From the Fishouse.
